    If a coil of insulated wire surrounds a piece of soft iron and a direct current is sent through the coil, it is
    called an electro­magnet. The space around the coil is the magnetic field. When the current is increased the

    reversed, the field is reversed. When an alternating current is sent through the coil the magnetic field
