The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, high-quality reproduction print of a World War I era Australian New Zealand Army Corp ANZAC recruitment poster by Norman Lindsay. Recruitment of volunteers for the effort was the goal of this poster. The title reads: “The Trumpet Calls.” At the center of the poster an Australian soldier sounds his trumpet as other soldiers fire their weapons, including a machine gun, from the trenches. In the background are a series of charcoal civilians who seem to be able to hear the trumpet call from afar. Of course the bravery of the Australian military in World War I is legendary including the Battle of Gallipolis among others. Norman Alfred William Lindsay (1879-1969) did the original artwork for this poster. He is recognized as one of Australia’s greatest artist although in the United Stated his work was considered controversial because of his nudes. In addition to his paintings Lindsay also sculpted, did political cartoons and wrote books including the children’s classic “The Magic Pudding”. Unfortunately, he was also a noted anti-Semite. Lindsay was the subject of a film called “Sirens” in 1994. W. A. Gullick, Government Printer, Sydney, did the original lithograph, on which this new print is based. ![]() PAPER QUALITY: This new print is on a highest quality, acid-free, 100-pound glossy premium text paper that allows for maximum color brilliance and fidelity for older images.
