There is neither a painting in the mind
Nor a mind in the painting:
And yet, where else can one find a painting
Than in the mind?

Best quality thangka of Vajravarahi!!! This one is of an extremely wrathful form of Vajravarahi! I'm sure there is a special name for this form of her, but I don't know it. Simply put, Prem Lama is my favorite thangka artist. His hallmark is that he does the most beautiful faces of anyone, however this one is beautiful in a slightly frightening way! His attention to detail and simple composition is very much in evidence here! If you want "flash" over substance, there is another eBay seller I can recommend to you :-) I still haven't mastered color correction in digital photography and the reds seem a lot more "screaming" in the photos than they do in person. Unfortunately the screaming reds seem to mask a lot of detail that you can't see in the photos but can in person. I'm trying to say it looks much better in person than in the photos. Look carefully at all of the photos!!! I want to clarify one thing, and that is that because an artist is named "Lama" - it does NOT mean he is a monk or Lama. Most of the Tamang and Newari artists in the Kathmandu Valley name themselves "Lama" or are named that by whoever sells their artwork.
Large size!! The painting itself measures 19 & 3/4 inches by 27 inches, not counting the borders.
This thangka is not mounted in brocade, but I am now able to provide brocade mountings for my thangkas at extremely reasonable prices. The finest quality Varanasi brocade is available. It will take a while to get the mounting done, but it will be good practice in patience!

Vajrayogini or Vajravarahi (Tibetan: dor je phag mo, English: the Vajra Sow) is a tantric Buddhist deity whose sadhana (practice) originated in India between the 10th and 12th century. She is often associated with triumph over ignorance as well as with abandonment (one of her hidden aspects is Varuni, goddess of alcohol and intoxication). She is often pictured with a sow and is an important deity for tantric initiation, especially for new initiates -- Vajrayogini's practice is said to be well-suited to those with those with strong desirous attachment, and to those living in the current "degenerate age". Her consort is Heruka, who is often depicted as a spear on Vajrayogini's shoulder.
Vajrayogini and her iconography are also closely associated with the Hindu goddess Chinnamasta.
This Vajra Yogini, from her limitless compassion for all beings, petitioned the Lotus-born Master to teach the doctrine [dharma] of the spoken word [mantra] as many times as necessary to deliver all beings from suffering. It was she who recorded these teachings and, so that they would not ever disappear from the earth, requested that they be concealed in such a way that neither the elements, nor mischievous beings could ever destroy them.
She accomplished this by offering a prayer and creating a spell or seal that would affect the minds of those meant to later uncover the wealth of the Guru's teachings for the benefit of future generations. Teachings hidden in this way are called terma in Tibetan, and a person who finds them is known as a terton.
Vajrayogini is ultimately Vajravarahi, the consort of Chakrasamvara, Lord of the Round of Existence. She is depicted in various forms. For example, the Sakya and Gelugpa traditions generally focus on Naro Khachoema, who stands on both legs in alida [lunge, or archer's position] with the kapila or skull cup somewhat raised. She is surrounded by a ring of flames on a burning ground where she treads on corpses.
Wearing only her head-dress and garland of skulls and bone ornaments, she may have a fierce expression with three red eyes, scowling brows, protruding belly and tongue.
There is a tigu [Skt. kartika,] a vajra-handled hooked chopper, in her right hand. The khatvanga [trident] is balanced on her left shoulder. This form of Vajrayogini is similar in many respects to depictions of Nairatma and Vajravarahi.
The practice of Naro Khachoma as related to the Chakrasamvara tantra cycle combines the essential lineage teachings of both Naropa and Niguma.
I want to make clear that in no way, shape or form do I represent myself as an expert on Tibetan iconography or thangka painting. I am just a beginner in understanding this profound art form. If there is any kind of problem, let me know. I will never knowingly misrepresent anything I am selling. There is always the chance that I may have been fooled myself, but will try to correct the situation if that ever happens. Please contact me if you think I have been misled. I also don't try to exaggerate the colors or contrast in my photos to make them more appealing. I believe in karma and that honesty is always the best policy and will do business by these principles.
A word or two about the terrible thangkas done in sweatshops in China. If you look at about 90% (or more) of the thangkas for sale on Ebay, they are being sold from China and all look very similar. By similar, I mean the proportions are all wrong, there is no fine detail work at all and they are mostly iconographically as incorrect as it is possible to be. A lot of them seem to be of deities that don’t exist! Ebay doesn’t seem at all interested in shutting down this flood of fakes, because they are making very good money on them. Not only has China's brutal regime been systematically eliminating Tibet's culture and religion in Tibet, they are ruining the art of thangka painting where it is barely hanging on in exile in Nepal and India and a very few artists in Tibet.
Some people have thought that my thangkas are so detailed that they must be prints. I do not sell prints of thangkas. If I do start doing so they will clearly be identified as such! The best way to determine if it is an original painting is to hold it up to a bright light or the sun. You will clearly see different thicknesses of paint and some brush strokes.
Also 1 or 2 people have thought that the paintings are on paper. They are all on cotton canvas, but they are treated with a layer of gesso (like plaster of paris or gypsum) and rubbed smooth. Some of them are so smooth you cannot see the individual fibers. To prove to yourself that the painting is on canvas, try ripping the corner of the border area and you will see threads.
