Ableton Live 8 Recording Software *This is for a FULL Ableton Live 8 Version (lite to full upgrade). You must register the Ableton Live Lite version included with the Akai APC40 first, then activate the Ableton Live 8 (lite to full upgrade). Ableton Live 8 is a unique tool for creating, producing and performing music. Live's Session View supports intuitive composition, improvisation and performance. The Arrangement View is a powerful, linear music production environment. Two views, one principle: intuitive, real-time music making. Live offers two main views—the Session View and the Arrangement View—that interact in a powerful and unique way, allowing you to create, produce and perform your music all in a single application. Here is the principle behind each view:

Session View Live's Session View acts as a musical sketch and launch pad, encouraging you to try out new ideas and improvise freely. Each cell in the Session View grid can hold a loop, recording, MIDI file, complete song or any other musical element. These ideas can be recorded on the fly or dragged in from the Browser, combined and played in any order you wish.

Arrangement View The Arrangement View offers a timeline-based approach for traditional recording, MIDI sequencing, arranging, editing and other musical production tasks. And when you improvise in the Session View, all of your actions can be recorded into the Arrangement View, where they can be edited and perfected whenever you like.

New in Ableton Live 8
Version 8 enhances the Ableton vision of creative, real-time digital music with a wealth of new techniques, effects and most-wanted workflow improvements.

New groove engine
Groove patterns can add life and swing to straight sequences. Live 8's new groove engine lets you apply groove patterns in real time, extract grooves from audio or MIDI sources, quantize audio and MIDI in real time. It also comes with a new groove library.

New warping engine
Live 8 introduces a new, more direct way of working with warping and some important Warp Mode enhancements. You can now warp audio events by adjusting the events themselves on the timeline. Beats Mode has been updated, and there's a completely new Complex Warp Mode. Plus you can slice audio files to MIDI tracks based on transients.

Looper
A much-requested feature, the Ableton Looper effect gives you classic sound-on-sound looping without the limitations of a hardware device. Looper is set up for remote operation, so you can record, overdub, undo and more without touching the computer.

New effects
Live 8 includes five powerful new effects: Vocoder, Multiband Dynamics, Overdrive, Limiter and Frequency Shifter. These effects cover all the well-known aspects of these devices, but really shine due to some innovative features and enhancements from the Ableton labs.

Virtual View
The APC40 talks directly to Ableton Live and Live talks directly to the APC40. This bidirectional communication makes the APC40 an advanced controller in that it can receive feedback from the software and display it on its clip matrix of 40 triggers and on LED rings surrounding each knob. The clip matrix gives you an instant view of clip status: what's loaded, what's playing, and what's being recorded. Each state displays on the matrix in a different color so you can get a quick picture of clip state. You can shift your clip focus and get an overview of the clips you have loaded for your set. The APC40 has 16 knobs, each surrounded by a ring of LEDs. These LED rings make it easy to see your settings on dark stages, indicating the currently selected parameters’ values.

It even features a high quality, replaceable crossfader for transitioning between clips and loops assigned to "A" or "B".

Creative Control
The APC40 comes Ableton Live Akai Professional APC40 Edition software, which is fully functional for performance and production. Owners of standalone editions of Ableton Live 7 or 8 can also work seamlessly with the APC40. Live 7 with the latest automatic update has full support for the APC40 and all versions of Live 8 are APC40-ready.

The APC40 has two banks of eight knobs. The first set controls Global parameters so you’ll always have instant access to your main sends, pans, and other essentials. The second bank of eight knobs is dynamically reassigned to the Track you select. You can control eight track parameters at a time, and as you switch channels, the Track knobs follow your focus. For example, you might be working with the Beat Decoder on track two. When you switch to track four, the eight Track knobs that you had been controlling the Beat Decoder with are now controlling the Flangeverb on track four. You'll even notice that the settings for each knob load on the light rings so you'll immediately see each knob's status.

The APC40 also enables special clip-status views and feedback that only the APC40's matrix can display. The matrix is not limited to only 40 clips: you can scroll and shift, enabling you to access, control, and perform with an unlimited number of cells.

The APC40 has a wide range of controllers. The eight Global knobs can access four banks of controls; the eight Track knobs control nine different track parameters each. This gives you a massive total of 72 controllers that are dynamically reassigned each time you switch tracks. Channel faders, bus faders, and a crossfader give you smooth control of key values. You have even more control power with special controls including Tap Tempo, Tempo Nudge, record enables, solo/cues, and two assignable footswitch inputs.

Return/Exchange Policies

General Return Policy Guidelines
Email us for a "Customer Return Authorization" number at returns@novamusik.com. All CRA numbers must be obtained this way. CRA numbers are good for 10 days after their issue date.

Full 30 Day Money Back Guarantee on all unopened items. Additionally, we offer a 15 Day Guarantee/Exchange Policy on all defective/broken units.

A 15% restocking fee will be assessed to any open product return.

After 15 days of the purchase date, all defective items that need to be repaired must be sent directly to the manufacturer or warranty provider. Additional details on warranty coverage can be found in the product paperwork or on the manufacturer’s website.

All products must be returned in like-new condition. Items must show no signs of wear, MUST INCLUDE ALL ORIGINAL PACKAGING, all documentation, accessories and NOT REGISTERED. This includes all software that comes with the product. Additional fees will be applied for all missing accessories or parts and items that have been physically damaged or misused. The fee amount is subject to Nova Musik’s discretion.

Shipping fees are the responsibility of the customer. Shipping fees are non-refundable unless the item turns out to be defective (see below). All priority and international shipments are non-refundable even in the case of a defective item.

International customers must pay to ship item(s) back to Nova Musik in the case of a defective item(s). All goods must be marked as the CRA number authorization email describes otherwise the shipment will be rejected. We do not pay return import duties.

VERY IMPORTANT! Insure the item you are returning at your FULL INVOICE VALUE. We will do everything we can to help you file a claim for a damaged/lost shipment. Unfortunately, the shipping party is responsible if your returned merchandise ends up lost or damaged in the mail.

Please allow 2-3 weeks for all refunds to post to your account. On average banks will process a credit in 1-10 business days but may take up to 3 weeks.

Broken or damaged merchandise returned for replacement may take up to 5 business days to process. Please contact us to make sure that your product is in stock and ready to ship. We will do everything in our power to get your replacement unit to you as fast as we can.

Non-Returnable Items
Copyrighted materials cannot be returned once opened due to copyright law. This includes books, videotapes, DVDs, sample libraries, style disks, sound expansion boards, and software (which may also include software bundled with hardware).

Recording media such as DAT tapes or CDRs.

Disposable products including drumsticks and cleaning supplies.

Recording equipment including multi-tracks, hard disks, CD burners, tape recorders.

Personal use items such as microphones, headphones, ear plugs, in-ear monitors, and drum sets/kits.

All instrument/computer parts and upgrades including expansion boards, RAM, hard drives, flash media and sound cards.

Discontinued/clearance items.

Special orders may be returned within 15 days and a 25% non-refundable charge will apply.

Defective Product Returns/Exchanges
If you believe the product is defective, you must contact the manufacturer's tech support department before requesting a CRA number. Please be sure to include your case number with your CRA request. We will always exchange a defective unit for a replacement.

If an item arrives to you clearly damaged in transit please call us as soon as possible so we can arrange to have UPS or USPS inspect the damage and return it to us.

For international orders, please be advised that shipping and handling fees are non-refundable.

You will be credited or a replacement unit will be sent once we receive and inspect the product. This usually takes 3-5 business days.
