| Beautiful VINTAGE ANTIQUE ABSINTHE BISTROT SET. General Background: During the 1800's and the beginning of the 20th century (until Absinthe was banned) this drink dominated the cafes and bistros throughout areas of Europe and especially in France. Absinthe was also very popular in New Orleans until banned in the United States. An absinthe drinker would order their drinks, served on saucers and accompanied by an absinthe spoon for adding sugar to this slightly bitter beverage. The saucers denoted the cost of their orders and were stacked up and summed to represent their total bill. This set represents a piece of history, surviving absinthe's heyday a century ago. Glass: Verlaine Egg Glass: This is a beautiful and very rare example of a heavy, rippled classic egg glass with vintage fine lines due to its antique manufacturing process and has a very heavy weight. This glass is dated 1900 and is a fine example of an absinthe bistro glass well used during the era. These absinthe glasses were of top quality, very commonly depicted in vintage absinthe art and advertisements. This is a very elegant, representation of the highest quality and no damage whatsoever (7 1/4" tall, 3 1/2" mouth, and 3 1/8" base). This is valued at $190 elsewhere !! Spoon: This spoon represents Les Etoiles #2 which were produced between 1890 and 1915 period. These spoons have a very distinctive star design. A spoon in this condition ("Average") is still very usable if you are planning it for use rather than display, and has some natural fading of the finish. Valued conservatively at $30 Saucer: Very nice saucer without any chips or cracks, in wonderful condition with the thin gold band still in tact around the rim of the saucer with the light green/blue rim. Signs of aging are very minimal and this particular saucer has a very fine, ornate label - excellent condition considering age and saucer type. The "50" indicates the price of the drink served. Measures 4 1/2" wide. One typically finds saucers used less frequently denoting higher prices (2 or more Francs) because those were used less frequently and most often have lasted the test of time (less wear due to less use due to high pricing). This fact makes this saucer even more valuable and an even better, more accurate representation of the period. The branding at the bottom states, it was made in Limoges France which is where most porcelain saucers were made during this period and is a region known for the highest quality porcelain. Made by a french company, "J Charlionais L Pourailly and C" then denoting it is a "Compagnie Generale Toulouse" or company of Toulouse france although the porcelain of course was manufactured in Limoges. I believe this saucer is conservatively worth $50 Return Policy: Items are all Insured.
