Offered for sale is a Wall Art Quilt called "Alien Leaf Forms".

Created in 2004, this quilt won the First Place Blue Ribbon at the 2004 Marin Quilt & Needle Arts Show in the Art Quilts category.

This quilt was created as an abstraction from nature.  I started with the leaves from the hydrangea plant in my front year.  Abstracting and exaggerating the sharply serrated edges of the leaves resulted in the various leaf forms.  These are all free-form created starting with pencil sketches, then they are drawn to scale, then transferred to pattern paper to make the pieces out of interfacing and fabric.  This same process was repeated for each part of each leaf - each leaf has two or three layers. 

A similar process produced the oversized hydrangea blossoms.  Each of the pieces is then laid out and stitched in place against a background.  Free-form satin stitching in a variety of rayon and polyester threads accentuates the edges of the pieces.  Then begins the machine quilting.  This piece probably has about 40 hours of machine quilting in it.  Every inch is extensively quilted  to accentuate the shapes and forms.  It is somewhat stiff due to the layers and heavy quilting, but still retains the wonderful tactile nature inherent in fiber art!

The materials, time and workmanship in this piece would place it's value in the $1500-$2000 range. When I machine quilt a quilt of this size for a customer, with this level of detailed quilting, the cost of the quilting alone would be about $800. 

This quilt would look awesome as the focal point room decor in a contemporary room.  It would also be beautiful framed.
