You will receive exact item as pictured with some normal variations as our items are 100% hand made | DESCRIPTION | | Unique shaped, 11" body diameter about 5" thick The origin of the Udu drum lies in Nigeria, where members of the Hausa and Ibo tribes discovered the extraordinary sound of these earthenware instruments with two openings. "Udu" in the Ibo language means "pot".The Udu drums are played by rhythmically opening and closing the side-hole with the palm of the hand. This produces a deep bass tone, reminiscent of the sound of the Indian tabla. The bass tone is combined with the body sound, a clear and stony percussive sound, which is created by hitting any part of the pot with the fingers. This Udu drum is a "water safe" i.e. you can pour some water inside of this drum to change its pitch. Microphone hole and stra stand included. The Udu combines the unique sound of 'aqua-resonance' with a warm earthy vibration, producing a seamless fusion of deep and high ambient tones. Beautiful to hold and touch, calming and soothing to the eye the Udu pot can take you to a meditative state, producing feelings of peace and well being. The pot can easily be adapted for Indian Tabla techniques, by use of the palms, fingertips, fingernails, flicking and tapping. Self-expression is easily achieved through exploring the endless possibilities of sound and rhythm. ~4.00 lb, Origin: Nigeria
