This is African from the Ndebele tribes. It is a beautiful broom adorned with Nbebele beads. It is probably 50+ years old and a rare find here in the states. It is made of the Thatch material known in Africa, considered to be their naturally grown grass. It measures 3 feet long and all the thatch is intact and tight and could actually be functional. There are a couple of places around the base of the beadwork section that need to be repaired - or at the least, that you should know about. Some aficionados consider most of these very old beaded items to have some degree of this kind of repair. I have tried to illustrate this in these pictures. Since I am an agent for the gentleman who owns this collection (many pieces are currently on line)I am being straight forward that this piece needs some work, if you even deem it necessary. From the information provided to me, the price at which we are asking is 1/3 the cost that was paid for this back in the 70's. I do not know if this was purchased with these flaws or they happened over the 30 years this piece has been in storage. Either way, this piece is very unique, authentic, and very old - a true artifact.. This asking price should be considered a Steal! If you need anything, please feel free to contact me. Thankyou |
