No questions about it!!

MIND BLOWING & S T U N N I N G

is the word here folks!

Vintage, legendary & stunningly beautiful Akai 10.5" professional grade GX-636 auto-reverse open-reel tape deck in utterly fantastic cosmetic condition & full like new working condition as well. I would be very surprised if there is anything like it left anywhere! Or if one like it ever again shows up for sale anywhere unless there is another one somewhere that is still in the box that has been left in the Akai warehouse in Japan!

Vintage, legendary brushed silver finish & near top-of-the-line Akai GX-636, 6-head, auto-reverse play/record open-reel tape deck in truly stunning condition with VERY, VERY LOW hours of usage (may be 25 hours if that much!). This is most probably one of the nicest examples of this classic, high-end open-reel deck left anywhere around & the only one that is actually being offered for sale anywhere in such an amazing “LIKE NEW” condition!! Just see how the face plate & the knobs gleam like jewels!

Another ULTRA fine & ULTRA rare item from my world reknown private vintage Akai audio collection!

See the recent auctions that I have had in the recent times to just get a feel of the “high caliber” of the even the used vintage audio units that I occasion offer on Bay! See auction #s such as the following:

As it is ALWAYS the case with all my auctions, all the pictures in the auction are of the actual wonderful item that you will be bidding on!

You will not find a bargain basement item in this auction as the following item is not cheap & has a high starting bid for all the right reasons! The equation is simple here however:  You'll pay top dollars for a top premium quality vintage audio item as I have myself!

 ===========================

A WORD BEFORE YOU START READING THIS AUCTION:

Dear fellow eBay member/vintage audio enthusiast;

Sorry, the vintage open-reel deck in this auction is not one of those bought in a garage sale or some unknown & questionable so called ''estate sale'' or one of those that worked OK when it was used 15 years ago! No, the vintage open-reel deck in the following auction is not one of those Mickey mouse ones & is not cheap & is not for everyone either. So with all due respect, if you're looking for something for the garage or the gym room, I'm afraid that you'll need to look somewhere else & save your time (& mine in the process too!).  What I occasionally sell from my private vintage audio collection mainly due to lack of space, has cost me premium dollars & time I can not possibly afford to start the auctions for them at $0.99 as you wouldn't either! I want to only reach a certain community within eBay who knows what this open-reel deck is all about & knows its value in this sort of amazing condition! Vintage audio is pretty much all I do on eBay & is what I know.

I'm indeed the kind of person that you would love to buy your vintage audio units from as many have from all the 4 corners of the world as far as Australia & yes even Japan itself & come back again and again looking for more & more! Don't waste your time & money on units that seem like the deal of the century at funny looking prices as in most cases, well, that's all that they are really worth! By comparison, units from my collection are all in top notch condition & will only appreciate in value as time goes by. This particular deck is a SERIOUS collector's item & as such is only intended for the SERIOUS collectors!
Only those true vintage collectors who would appreciate such a well preserved vintage audio component need to read further!

Thank you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vintage audio collectors & especially vintage era Akai collectors rejoice! This is the auction that you may have been waiting for months, months & months! Arguably one of the finest open-reel decks ever made at the very peak of the Akai's workmanship & know-how! Period! The incomparable Akai GX-636 open-reel deck! Very proudly offered here exclusively through this eBay auction "worldwide" in amazing & stunning condition directly from my private renown vintage audio collection!

Simply put, another GX-636 looking like this one may NEVER, EVER show up for sale anywhere again soon!

The history of the deck:

This deck has been part of my larg vintage Akai collection for almost a 2 years now. I purchased it form its orignal owner who only ever had one tape to play with the deck! He probably used it for about 10 hours. The rest 15 hours or so have been used by yours truly! It has been VERY, VERY well cared for & as a rsult it is still in outstanding condition in all regards! Simply put in ''Collector's Condition''!

The deck had a retail price of $1,100 US dollars when new back in 1981 when the deck was 1st introduced! It was one of the last open-reel decks that was made by the legendary Akai lable & was one of their best lookig & sounding too. A successful deck, Akai kept in production for a few years until the fromat was forgotton all together. .This deck is absolutley loaded with professional caliber features and there is so much that I can not possibly list! But since the deck is so well know and famous & now has a bit of ''cult'' status, there are just tons & tons of information on it is available on it on the internet!

Now for the record, here is my complete report on the condition of this lovely vintage open-reel deck:

The cosmetic condition of the GX-636 deck:

In one word, the unit is still in MIND BLOWING & ULTRA CLEAN & BEAUTIFUL CONDITION BOTH INSIDE & OUT after all these years! Good heavens, it looks almost like a new GX-636 deck!!!!! You will be utterly PROUD to show off this stunner to your friends as I have been!

However, if you want to hear more (as I know you that you’d just love to!) here it is folks:

The stunning heavy gauge & very heavy face plate & both wood side panles is in just awsome shape and just about perfect with only a very slightest of imperfections (if any atall that is!!). The entire face plate & the top plate are just drop dead gorgeous! All the edges & 4 corners of it are sharp as a knife & nice. All the ORIGINAL & beautiful letterings are perfect 10/10, all the ORIGINAL knobs, switches & buttons are perfect 10/10 as well. The rear panel cover is also in fantstic condition. All the RCA jacks & all are all excellent & 100% original & solid. The meter clear lenses are perfect 10/10.

The beautiful original wood side panels which really add a lot to already stunning looks of these decks, due to the large & heavy nature of these decks are usually in poor to very poor shape with lots of scratches, chips, dents or they are missing all together! But not on this baby as both wood side panels as it can be easily seen in the pictures are in truly fantastic shape & are just about as perfect as they come !

Now as much as I try to describe the cosmetic condition of the deck by using words, I think that each single large, high resolution picture of the deck tells a thousand words & they really do tell the story!

Again all the buttons, knobs & switches on the front of the power amplifier are still 100% original with no scratches or marks & just gleam!

The technical/working condition of the GX-636 deck:

In one word it is almost 100% perfect (see blow why I didn't rate a 100% perfect):

The deck plays & also records just like a new GX-636 would & all the functions & lights are PREFECT 10/10. The playback & also the recording sound quality of the deck is just out of this world! The deck records so well that when you are recording & monitor the sound using the monitor switches on the deck & flip between "SOURCE" & "TAPE" it is very difficult to say which is which! All the lights are still original & perfect. All the many knobs, bottons & switches work perefect 10/10 with no statics or noise. All the the functions keys work fine & the FF & REW just fly! The 2 meters & their lights works perfectly as well. The heads & the pinch rollers show almost no wear at all & all are in FANTASTIC original condition!

The ONLY thing worth mentioning is that on occasion when using the auto-reverse direction change buttons, sometime after changing the direction the sound only comes from one of the channels at 1st however it usually just corrects itself in a few seconds & the sound comes out of both channels just fine. Now this deck has not been used all that much at all since new & the above occasional mentioned condition in my opinion may very well be due to that fact! On that note I have noticed when on occasion I have used the deck for a little while & the the deck is used more & more, it rarely ever happens! So it seems that this baby just needs some action! That seems to be all & is not a big deal AT ALL! Just make sure that you use it & this occasional condition may just go away on its own as the deck kind of self -aligns itself after regular usage. But nevertheless, I fully described it here since as an honest seller, I ALWAYS disclose all that I personally know about any of the audio units that I sell & the deck is sold having mentioned this isue. The above mentioned condition has not really bothered me personally at all since I know that she's only crying to be used! Except for this minor glitch (which I honeslt do even think requires a reapir !) the deck has NO other known issues whatsoever!

So I have for you consideration, this very clean looking & perfectly working, Akai GX-636 open-reel deck in its original glory virgin & untouched condition! The overall cosmetic & working condition of this vintage unit truly boggles the mind & drops the good old jaws half a feet!

As nice as the unit looks in its many, many large, high res pictures,  If you're lucky to eventually see it in person by wining this auction for it, you'll be simply blown away by it! Both by the looks & the amazing features & not to mention TRULY FANTASTIC sound quality!! Extremely detailed, sweet, tube like & silky smooth! In today's money, you have to spend at least $4,000 to buy a open-reel deck like this if they were still made! Just mama mia!

The unit is just pretty much drop dead gorgeous in every imaginable way!

Here's your very, very ultra rare chance to buy this legendary deck in the above described fantastic condition!

As it is now pretty much customary for all my vintage audio units to come with some kind of a special & rare bonus from my large archive of vintage audio brochures & manuals, I will also include the following very neat items for the lucky winner of it as the icing on the cake! They are:

> The 2 original Akai 10.5'' NAB reel adaptors for GX-636 deck in like new condition just like the deck itself!

> The original Akai GX-636 owner's manual in like new condition just like the deck itself!

> The high resolution, digital scans of the GX-636 owner's manual (so you can keep the original still unused!)

Now all these are the tasty icing on an already wonderful cake or what?

Note: The 2 Akai metal reels that you see in some of the pictures are just for the show & are NOT included in the auction.
