Album: 1820's Fine Original Art, Poetry, Ann Gilbert

Fine book, leather, good binding, good condition. 9.5 x 7.5 inch (24 x 19cm) With 48 pages of Poetry, Biblical Extracts, etc. Plus 17 pages of original artwork. Incl Pencil Drawings, Fine watercolours, and 3 loose items - 2 of which are hand coloured engravings. The botanical are of particular high standard. Includes a later list of contributors.

The text pages are interesting, with Poetry by Ann Taylor (Later Ann Gilbert) who along with her sister wrote the poem "Star" (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) This book contains poetry by both sisters, which may be in their hand as they were living in Hull, Yorkshire at the time.

The book was originally owned/created by a Grace Riddell of Hull. The others are all (Or most) connected in some way to the Taylor Sisters. They were all religious dissenters. I have tried to locate the Poetry, but is not listed in either sisters Anthology. The signature at the end of the Poems does match a known signature of Ann Taylor (Gilbert)

Some other contributors include Ann Gilbert's Son - Josiah Gilbert (Personalised message to Grace Ridell at front of book) G.Bennet, WM Bowden, Richard Cecil (Student of Joseph Gilbert) Pierre Mejamel, and a later contribution by J.Gilbert.

A wonderful item, further research could prove useful. All artwork scanned, only a selection of text pages scanned.
