I personally know this is true because I own some tape that was recorded back as early as 1956 that still has the sound quality expected from the same grade of new tape. The environment that tape is kept in has the greatest effect on tape life.
This tape was made for the American Airlines Astrovision and is part of a large collection the airlines had made for the enjoyment of passengers. These American Airlines originals are becoming very scarce and are pack with the most popular recordings of the time.

I have listened to this recording and it is magnificent! I was simply amazed by the sound quality of this tape. There are no dropouts, and the sound quality was much better than I had expected for a tape recorded at 3-3/4ips. The box is very good condition but has some scribbling on the front in ink. This is being sold with money back guarantee if not satisfied.
