Up for auction is an American
Bridge 4 lb beater. It has the familiar logo symbol on the underside of
the beater.
This is a narrow profile beater unlike any other in use today.
These
were used extensively by Iron Workers on the derrick jobs. There
is a photograph of an iron worker using one of these in Lewis Hine's
book Men at Work.
This one
even has the hole for a leather thong to prevent the beater from
plummeting to the street when wrapped around the iron worker's wrist.
The beater is 11 inches long to the end of the
handle. The head is almost 6 inches long and 2 inches at the widest
part.
This is a rare find for anyone in the trade. |
