"A million Thanks to all of the people who are contributing to ONE Spirit through Ebay. The Lakota Elders on the reservation are very concerned about the coming winter. We did an evaluation of the heaters supplied last year and according to the people using them, they kept an entire room warm, were safe (didn't get hot enough to cause fire or burn a person), and the cost of operation was consistently reported to be less than $50.00 per month.
For the next month, we can get as many of these same heaters as we can afford from the same supplier as last year. He guarantees them, replaces them immmediately if there is any problem, and sells them to us at less than 1/2 the normal retail price.

Of course, as it gets closer to winter, this opportunity is not likely to be available to us.

Right now, the cost including shipping is about $50 per unit. The money brought in by Ebay will be a big help.
Love and peace,"

This is a description of the excellent Italian heater that the Lakota people received last year in conjunction with ONE Spirit, and is the same heater being used in ONE Spirit's current Lakota Heat Program. Please read on...

More from Jeri Baker - ONE Spirit's Director:
The Lakota people manage the food co-op
Project SHARE on the reservation. They unload the trucks, sort the
food into orders, and deliver it around the reservation. It is the
Lakota people who go out and cut the wood, split it to usable size and
deliver it to homes. It was the men in Allen who took horses in the
coldest part of winter and dragged logs from the woods, split them and
delivered them. It is Rosalie Janis and Linda Bull Bear who store
food and make it available when we need it in an emergency. It is
people on the reservation like Deborah Horne who found the people most
in need and delivered heaters in the coldest part of the winter. Most
recently, a grandmother who cares for her grandchildren had been
without water in the home for over 5 months. The Allen community had
tried every organization possible, including the tribe, to get money
for a pump. With the help of ONE Spirit supporters, we were able to
supply the pump and the men in the community donated their labor to
install it. They are working on this project now and grandmother will
soon have water again.
ONE Spirit works in partnership with the Lakota people. This is a
unique arrangement in that we support their efforts to take care of
their people.
We are asking other organizations to join with us in supplying a way
for the people on the reservations to stay warm this winter.
What this group and all the sponsors, donors and supporters do is
awesome. Thanks to each and every one of you.
Love and peace,
Jeri
