Ancient Puebloan Style Flute
HAND
CRAFTED BASED UPON FLUTES FOUND AT CHACO CANYON, IN PUEBLO BONITO, in
modern-day New Mexico
Tuning and construction of
these flutes reflects measurements and illustrations made by archaeologists
from the early 20th century during two expeditions.
This Ancient
Puebloan (Anasazi) Style flute has been crafted by instrument builder Michael
Andrew Doherty (Apricot Tree Woodwinds), from quality Florida bamboo. The bamboo is strong
and has an elegant yellow-white natural finish, as shown in these
pictures. The flute is bound with natural colored sinew (synthetic) to
help stabilize the bamboo for years and years of enjoyment under normal
care. The flute is 25 3/4 inches in length, or 65.4 cm. The closed
tube plays in Bb.
This flute is designed to
play like a modern-era Hopi flute, quena, or shakuhachi. The
mouthpiece is crafted to allow for a rich sound throughout the range of its
tones, allowing for its two octave range.
