This auction is for an authentic Widow's Mite, ancient biblical bronze/copper coin of Alexander Jannaeus(king of Judea) dated 103-76 B.C. On the obverse side: An image of an anchor. On the reverse side: An image of a Sun/Star with rays. This rare coin is faded but in good condition. Measures 8+mm across. Found near the Holy Land. This coin type is shown in David Hendins "Guide to Biblical Coins" #472, shown in picture 3. This type of coin is mentioned in the Bible under Mark 12:41-44(And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury, and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, witch make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them. Verily I say unto you. That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury, for all they did cast in of their abundance, but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living).
