It doesn't snow much in Ann Kirtley's Arkansas hometown but she has captured the nostalgia of winter's first snowfall perfectly with her Pincushion Snowflakes.  Frozen in crochet this eight pattern set captures the intricate delicacy of individual snowflakes. 

Opulent with lace and sparkling with beads, these pincushions have a Victorian air, and are almost too pretty to use.  Not so says, Ann, who explains, "favorite designs of the Victorians often centered around familiar, useful objects near at hand.  These were often glorified and raised to artistic excellence.  I wanted to begin with the humble forms around the home, such as pincushions, to create the lovely geometric designs of snowflakes.
