ATTENTION MOVIE BUFFS!
At auction is a vintage Movie-Mite "Sound-on-Film" 16 mm projector in operating condition with original cords and built-in speaker.
The Movie-Mite 63LM projector patent was applied for in 1943, and the projector was produced from the 1940's through the War Years, then production continued till the mid 1950's. The Movie-Mite was one of the first "desk top" sound movie projectors and became very popular with the general public and the military. The projector is very compact, including all components except the screen in one compact case, cords neatly folded and tucked away, arms stowed safely, and built in speaker protected by a latched door. There is a "silent/sound" switch to toggle the sound track pick up on and off.
This unit has been used, but it is still in operating condition*. Please check the pictures for a better look at the condition of the Movie-Mite.
In 1940, F. O. Calvin formed a subsidiary, the Movie-Mite Corporation, that manufactured 16mm motion picture projectors and other equipment. These included the first desk-sized movie projector. Tens of thousands of these "Movie-Mites" were sold through the 1940's.
The New Center Building, as it was called, had been built in 1907 and had originally housed two large movie theaters on its first floor, and the Calvin Company the New Center Building in Kansas City into two huge sound stages for film production, the largest between New York and Los Angeles. In these rooms the Calvin Company produced a myriad of movies for the US government. This building also included space for the Movie-Mite Corporation, which kept going strong until the early 1950's.

*We have threaded and tested this projector with a color 16mm movie, and the picture is clear and does not "jump". HOWEVER, since the only movie we had available is a 1960's Breast Self Exam Movie from the American Cancer Society, we decided NOT to show a picture of the screen shot. We were unable to test the sound since the wiring to the speaker needs to be replaced.
