Flow Blue Teapot
Alcock's "Scinde"
From my lifetime personal collection of Flow Blue china comes this beautiful
Flow Blue "Scinde" Teapot by J. & G. Alcock.
It measures 9-1/4" from the spout across the handle, by 8-1.2" to the top of the lid finial.
The handle has been broken and repaired.
The condition is otherwise exceptional for this rare and very early teapot.
It has a single glaze skip under the belly, and a tiny fleabit out of the interior rim, and that's about it.
The lid, so often missing or badly damaged, is pristine.
The interior is very clean. (You can see the little fleabite at about 8:00 below).
The flow is deep and dark.
This teapot is in the paneled "pumpkin shape".
The bottom is marked with the "Scinde" oval,
...and also impressed under the glaze with
ORIENTAL / STONE / J. & G. ALCOCK.
This early mark dates to 1836-49.
N.B.: This is one of the occasions when I must put a reserve on an item, as my investment in this teapot, purchased at an important estate auction in New Hampshire many years ago, was considerable, even for that time.
