Antique 1883 American Sterling Cabinet Grand Piano

This is a magnificent antique American made piano, serial number 22544, 125 years old! It is hand-signed and dated inside. I will include the appraisal, valued at $2,750.00 as is, with purchase. Value increases after restoration.
This piano was manufactured in 1883, and is rated as a grade V antique. It measures 26" deep, 57" long and 54" high. It has exceptional, detailed carvings both inside and out but needs restoration and tuning. I am not familiar with the extent of the work needed. It is missing a couple pieces of ivory keys, as shown in one of the pictures below. This piano is being sold as is.
Sterling pianos have long been favorites among the characteristically American instruments. They are of fine tone quality and high attainments of American craftsmanship.
The Sterling Organ Company was founded in 1845 in Derby, Conn. In 1860, the company added pianos to their line. After the Civil War, young ladies were trained en masse to play these pianos. A large fire destroyed the plant in 1875, but it was quickly rebuilt, and by 1879 the factory was double its original size. (See photo of factory below.) By 1884 organs made only a small percentage of the company's output, and the company was known as Sterling Piano.
Company literature (photo of catalog included below) described the construction of the pianos as: “…made with a full iron frame covering the entire wrest plank, giving perfect solidity and firmness. The sounding boards are from carefully selected spruce, no soft pine of any other material being allowed to enter into this important part of the instrument. The backs are built up very strongly, and the instruments are constructed with every regard for durability. The scales used are the most perfect and thoroughly tested and thoroughly even throughout, and the tone produced in the Sterling is noted for its long sustained or singing quality. It is by superior tone, easy action, beauty of design, and honest make, that the Sterling has made a favorable debut in all the large cities of the United States, Mexico, and Central America, while agencies have been established in several European cities”.
