Antique 1902 Gammeter Multigraph Typewritten Machine

This is an Antique 1902 Gammeter Multigraph Typewritten Machine which came out of a Manhattan estate and it is in good looking and in working condition. Early on it was recognized that form letters were more likely read if they appeared to be typewritten and individually addressed and this Gammeter Multigraph was the first successful machine to produce form letters which appeared to be typewritten. It was introduced by the American Multigraph Company of Cleveland, Ohio in 1902 and uses a drum with parallel horizontal slots into which are set pieces of printers type which match the font on a typewriter. Included is a Flexo Typesetter No. 39 which is used to compose the form letter and then transfer it to the Gammeter multigraph. The form letters are printed using an inked ribbon (not included) as the drum is rotated. This particular drum even has most of an original form letter which was set in it on 9:20, Jan 17, 1940. These machines were so valuable to large companies in 1917 they were selling for as much as $765 or the equivalent of over $11,000 today. This particular one is in remarkable condition with all of the original labels intact.

This is a complete antique Gammeter Multigraph which comes with the matching typesetter and approximately 30 bars of extra type whether you want to use it for display and/or to exhibit how it works for public exhibition. The multigraph measures 10-1/2''x11''x11-1/4,'' the typesetter measures 9-1/2''x9-3/4''x10-3/4,'' and they weigh a total of 80 pounds.
