This item, sold "As-Is," is cam gear from an antique Briggs and Stratton FH engine -- horizontal fin.  It appears to be in generally very good shape.  The numbers on the ID plate of the engine this came with indicated that this assembly came from a 1928 engine (44901).  It looks very good, usable, and solid to me, with the following observations (see pictures in support of these comments): 1) The cam lobe was built up with braze long ago (see picture # 2) -- which is not astonishing of an eighty-year old part.  People used to use these things and "made do" when it was called for (something which we would do well to "rediscover"). 2) The gear teeth look good to me--I think they should be fine.  While I realize that this is subjective, I think it is usable, and I have had some experience with this sort of thing over the years.

Anyway, it is off of an engine I'm parting out (please see my other current listings for other parts of this same engine).  This engine was in pieces a box when I got it; this part may have other attendant bits which are not attached; if you know what you are looking at and see something missing, ask (early) and I'll check in the box, although there are no guarantees.  Let me know.  Other than that, these no longer grow on trees.  I am confident in saying that the local lawnmower shop does not stock these babies.  A picture is worth a thousand words.  Look at the pictures, make your own judgments, and bid early and often.

Also, if you have questions or comments, please ask them early, and I'll do my best to get back to you with an answer.  If absolutely necessary, I will make more measurements if requested--and if you ask nicely, since this is an operative part, I am even willing to take more pictures--but there's a reason I haven't done it already; I am pretty pressed for time right now with fieldwork, etc.  If you do ask for more than is in the listing, it may take a day or so before I respond.

By the way, except for the fuel tank (which did not sell), I think that my current listings are the last parts from this engine--and I don't have any more.  That "they don't grow on trees" thing is true--especially with stuff that nobody is likely to reproduce.  Don't kick yourself later for not bidding today.

Now for the fun stuff; 1) I don't do returns (particularly as this is an engine I'm parting out...I would not list these items if I wanted to keep them--I'm looking for good homes for them).  Don't bid if you do not want the part. 2) I live out in the boonies, and the good old US Postal service is my means of shipping.  This usually means priority mail, as it usually represents the best time/care value for the money (if you really want your part in 8 million years as opposed to 2 or 3 days, I'll consider parcel post).  I also REQUIRE insurance for the purchase price, having been burned before.  THEREFORE,  IF YOU ARE THE WINNING BIDDER, DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN INVOICE FROM ME!!!!!!!--the invoice you get from me will include an insurance amount for the purchase price.  I have had a problem lately with well-meaning people paying by paypal before I've gotten an invoice including this cost to them, which just creates a hassle for me and you.   THANK YOU FOR THIS COURTESY.   For foreign bidders (if any); if you live in a place for which insurance is not available (like some foreign countries), SHIPPING IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, which you acknowledge and undertake by bidding.  This part weighs right at five-sixteenths of a pound without packaging, and I don't know what it will take to pack it securely with a box, etc. (a pound?) whatever it weighs, I promise that I charge ACTUAL SHIPPING--no more and no less.  The figures/calculator costs in this listing are a good "guesstimate," but no more, since the part is not packaged up yet.  3) I accept Paypal (preferred) and US Postal Money Orders (and no other kinds).  4) Finally, once I actually get an invoice to you, please pay relatively promptly--i.e. within 10 days of the end of the auction (or make arrangements with me if this is not possible for some reason)--otherwise I'll relist and  think bad thoughts about you.

Anyway, Thanks for looking, bid early and often, and check out my other listings--and GOD BLESS AMERICA--still the best country on earth!
