In this auction I have 6 metres of Ecru / natural / champagne coloured Cotton Leavers lace edging / Insertion of an amazing quality. 

The lace is 6 1/2" inches wide with Two straight edges with a lovely Cluny circular design. It  has raised 'bobbles' / 'spots' that are characteristic of  Leavers Laces.  

 It is made from a very good strong high quality Heavy gauge cotton.  This lace insertion / edging is perfect for pillows and duvets and also as a bottom edge insertion on  hand / guest towels, tablecloths and pelmets in curtain sets.

This lace is also used in the world of fashion - inserted into waist line bands on dresses and skirts.

Our family run company prides itself on making World Famous Cotton Leavers Lace - When the laces are made on these huge old machines the resulting lace comes off the machine in a colour we call 'greige' . This basically is a dirty grey colour, a lot resulting from the black lead which is used in making the machines run smoothly. In order to dye the lace to whites ( which incidently there are 120 different shades of !) / ecrus or any other colour the lace has to go through a rigorous process of dying and finishing in extreme temperatures and is stretched on large looms to pull the cotton laces back into shape and to correct the width from the cotton shrinkage. All the laces have a 3 to 5 %  composite which will not be cotton  - maybe nylon or polyester to help the cotton hold in the dying process and with the modern washing machines would be ruined after one hot wash without it! In the 'trade'  strictly speaking a garment or fabric can be called cotton as long as it has at least 95% cotton composition which all our laces have.
