Note: These are the lines of text in the slides.RARE ANTIQUE AMBER EUROPEAN OPEN SALT & PEPPER WITH SPOONS, 19th century. German or Austrian, late Art Nouveau or very early Art Deco periods. Very unusual, extremely rare, nicely carved from natural opaque Baltic amber pieces. Amber was used to carve a variety of utilitarian and decorative objects, including but not limited to chess pieces, small bottles, mouthpieces for pipes & cigarette holders, buttons, pen handles and letter openers, boxes, combs and toiletries, figurines, and of course jewelry. The larger open salt, has a handle carved in form of a serpent. The open pepper is a more simple yet elegant form. Both have matching miniature spoons. The pepper spoon has a minor chip in its bowl and a chip at the end of the handle. The amber has acquired its butterscotch color with age, over 100 years. Both demonstrate artistic skills and superb workmanship. Light, delicate, attractive, elegant and in great condition. Nice functional conversation pieces at any elegant table setting. A must for collectors of antique amber. Open salt maximum Width: 3 1/4" Height: 3/4" Weight with its spoon: 31 grams. Open pepper maximum Width: 2" Height: 3/4" Weight with its spoon: 23 grams.
