Please read before bidding. Up for bid is a favorite of mine. This is a ca. 1860 (not bone) incredible 32 piece Victorian chess set I purchased sometime back out of England. It arrived on special permit. One side is natural ivory color, and the other red dye. The grain of the white set is beautifully evident. The condition is excellent overall. See photos for conditions. The proof of authenticity paper will be included. The pieces are turned and carved having as many as 4 parts screwed together (such as the rooks.) King heights are about 2 3/4 inches. There are no missing chips, castellations, or finials. Here are the conditions I see: The red rooks have an old surface crack from long ago, but stable. (see photo) The red knight has a white blotch where it had water spilled once upon a time. This dye used is a vegetable base and evidently water soluble. A few of the other red pieces show small washed spots. A red bishop has a slightly warped base. It don't bother me, but wanted to mention it. A red pawn has a crack at the narrow near the top. $5.70 shipping insurance is required for this bid. This amount is based on its real value rather than the closing bid. Ships to USA $7.95.
