Antique Central Asian Silver Horse Tack Breastcollar (a) Very unusual antique Central Asian silver horse tack breastcollar, with bells and jingles, Late 19th century. Could be from Northeastern Iran. This a very strong, heavy silver chain linked mesh “necklace” used as ornamental tack on horses. II. Antique Central Asian Silver Horse Tack Breastcollar 1. Ornamental horse tack can be found in virtually all Middle Eastern cultures. The love of the horse can be seen in this heavy silver tack used over the breastcollar. The two spring end clips are later additions and are not silver. The grade of silver varies from .800 to .900. B. Total Length: 44" (111.8 cm.) Weight: 665 grams=21.4 troy oz.=1.5 lbs. III. It has many flat pseudo coin-like disks attached along with some real coins. Several coins are very faint with Russian double eagles on them and they appear to be 19th century, but the dates are not discernable. Two other more clearly identifiable coins are shown below. B.  coin. Ottoman coin. V. Antique Central Asian Silver Horse Tack Breastcollar (a) Although one of these coins is considerably older 1808, and the other 1940, the tack chain is late 19th century. Coins were added as needed when some fell off. (2) Ottoman coin, coin, B. dated 1223AH/1808AD. dated 1319/1940. VI. Antique Central Asian Silver Horse Tack Breastcollar 1. The links are well executed, and the flat disks appear to be old silver coins hammered flat, thus obliterating the designs. VII. Antique Central Asian Silver Horse Tack Breastcollar 1. Some links have breaks in them where the piece was assembled. The bells have their bottom portions partially missing. The whole tack breastcollar rings and jingles loudly when shaken. VIII.
