Antique English Black Cast Iron Bistro Pub Table Round Oak Top
Direct from England, this listing is
for great English “pub table” with a beautiful cast iron base and thick ROUND,
beveled edge oak top.
The base has classic legs with large
cherub or angel faces, and a lower center shelf with a lovely cut out design.
The table is quite heavy, of
course….A BIT OF HISTORY….traditionally English pubs favored cast iron tables
because they were less likely to be damaged if the pub patrons got unruly and
began to throw furniture!!
Today, decorators are using these
fabulous tables on patios, in kitchens and game rooms, den, just about anywhere
in the home or office as they are extremely versatile and always a conversation
piece. This one is especially intriguing with its lovely female faces on
the legs…….is she an angel or cherub… perhaps a Greek goddess?? I’m sure
many a conversation has been made around this table in an English pub
somewhere!!

Condition:
The table is in good condition for
its age (estimated 1940-1950), with normal signs of age and use, dings,
scratches and other imperfections. The table has probably been re-painted
over its life and could certainly be painted again to match the buyer’s décor.
The heavy beveled edge oak top could
be the original or a replacement~~it’s impossible to know, but over the years
the tops are sometimes replaced due to heavy use in the pubs. This top
has age related wear, dings, scratches, so it certainly isn’t a new one!!
I
