Antique English Majolica Bird Crane Lotus Pitcher PAIR

Just arrived from England, a gorgeous pair of majolica pitchers. 

Of course I primarily sell English furniture and just by the nature of my business I see A LOT of majolica and staffordshire, but normally refrain from purchasing it.  However I seldom find a PAIR of MAJOLICA pitchers and these just really caught my eye with their BIRD MOTIF.  I THINK it is a crane & lotus design…….the big long-legged birds stand atop lily pads with cattails in the background.  The coloring is a rather primitive wash of many earthy colors, greens, brown, yellow, and hits of red.

They each have a raised maker’s mark on the bottom.

I think they make a fabulous decorative accent….for any mantle or wall shelf, sideboard or bookcase… anywhere you’d like a classic English touch,  in a most exceptional pair of majolica pitchers.

Measurements:

Each pitcher 6”H x 5”, lip to handle edges;

3 ¾” diameter base.

As mentioned, all of my antiques are hand selected from premier European shippers.  I do not purchase in bulk, but prefer to individually purchase items, with each piece selected for its unique characteristics and quality.

 I do have some other Staffordshire sets listed…a pair of lions…a pair of collie dogs…..a pair of poodles….. and some figurines, including an “Uncle Tom & Aunt Chloe”.

Condition:

The pitchers are in good condition for their age, with expected normal signs of age and use, scratches, dings, and other imperfections.    THEY HAVE CRAZING THROUGHOUT with dirt settled inside the crazing, as to be expected with extremely old pottery.  I don’t find any repairs or large chips.  Glaze inconsistencies that occurred during the making, as to be expected.  PLEASE EMAIL ME with questions prior to bidding, as this is not my area of expertise and I will gladly answer any relevant questions prior to bidding.

 I always provide multiple photos that should be considered as part of the description….Please keep in mind antiques should be purchased for its uniqueness, higher quality material and craftsmanship and antique patina, charm and character….NOT for like-new condition!!!
