~Unusual SUTHERLAND with RADIAL GATE LEGS~

Just arrived from England, a really special antique table with distinctive styled gates  that I’ve never seen before!!!!!

~FOUR gates (typically there are two)…each swing out from the center barley twist legs to support the drop leaves~

~NARROW SUTHERLAND DESIGN for versatile use anywhere in the home~

~TWO full length drop leaves, either one or both can be used to enlarge the tabletop size~

~SOLID OAK with BEAUTIFUL OAK GRAIN~

~Venerable English BARLEY TWIST LEGS on table & ALL GATES~

~QUALITY CONSTRUCTION by craftsmen of the period~

~Maker’s tag underneath “Artesque”.  I believe it is from the T. C. Harrison Company, c1922.

Quick facts about Sutherland tables:

“Sutherland table is a form of drop leaf table, but the central section is very narrow, so when it is folded down it occupies little space, but gives a large usable surface when open.  First recorded around 1850, they are said to be named for Harriet, Duchess of Sutherland, who was a favorite lady in waiting of Queen Victoria”…

Measurements:

28 ¼”H x 30” x 11”, both leaves down, VERY NARROW;

30” x 20 ½”, one leaf up and opened;

30” x 29 ¼”, both leaves up and full table top size.

Condition:

This table is in good condition for its age, with expected normal signs of age and use, scratches, dings, and other imperfections.   

NOTE:  The tabletop is fine….there is just some reflection and glare in some of the photos!!
