English Oak Victorian Wellington Chest Drawers Cabinet

chest…..certainly it is just a privilege to offer a Wellington chest
for sale, as they so rarely are found in today’s market!! For those unfamiliar, here’s a bit of history:
…”The Wellington Chest is perhaps the best-known piece of campaign furniture, and is named after the lst Duke of Wellington. Typically, a Wellington Chest has 6 to 12 drawers of equal depth. The
right-hand side of the frame, which overlaps the drawers, is hinged and
fitted with a lock which prevented the drawers from opening during
transport”….
The chest has classic English style, with multi-grooved drawers and side fronts, turned wood knobs, and heavy moulding on the upper and lower cabinet. The size is superb, slim and compact, providing a versatile chest for any room!! It has all the features described above, with 6 drawers and a lower drawer front that opens to reveal an interior space. The right-hand side of the frame overlaps the drawers and is hinged and fitted with a lock (the key didn’t make it from England, but a key could easily be made to fit).
The solid oak has a golden oak finish with a lovely aged patina, with handcut dovetailed drawers, with quality construction by craftsmen of the period!
Of
course in today’s home this chest would be perfectly suited for either
a gentlemens OR ladies chest, and serve equally well as an office chest
for paperwork and supplies!! In all instances, it is certain to
command attention and collect compliments.....easily it could be used
with any decor, from traditional to Victorian, Colonial to Mission!!
MEASUREMENTS:
37 ¾”H x 23” x 12 ½”;
6 drawers, interior measurements appx. 3.25"H x 17" x 9.25".
All of my antiques are hand selected from premier European shippers. I
do not purchase in bulk, but prefer to individually purchase the items,
with each piece selected for its unique characteristics and quality.
CONDITION:
The
chest is in good condition, structurally sound and visually appealing
with normal signs of age and use, scratches, dings, and other
imperfections.
As mentioned, a key is not included. Also
noted, the bottom drawer front opens to an interior area that does not
have a drawer bottom and possibly was constructed this way and noted
here for disclosure purposes only. The back has some wood separations around the nail/screw heads, as to be expected over age and time and not a material flaw. I
always provide multiple photos and written information, and I encourage
