For sale is a delicate Chinese flow blue tea cup. It measures 3 1/4" across and stands 1 1/4" tall. The cup has a wide bowl and stands on a short foot. It has one handle which is shaped like bamboo. The rim of the bowl is very thin and folds out ever so slightly. It appears the cup was hand painted during the underglazing process. The white porcelain, which is very fine, has a bluish cast to it.
The artwork consists of free flowing dots and lines in a fluid style. On first examination, these appear to be random marks but on closer inspection, it is clear the shapes are arranged to form two large flowers, one inside the bowl and one on the bottom. Two blue lines encircle the base of the cup on the outside; there is a third blue circle around the foot of the cup. The cup is signed on the bottom in Chinese. I don't know the age of the piece, but it looks very old to me. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or crazing.
I would love to hear about any information others might have about this cup.
