An impressive map from the Second Edition of the venerable Times of London Atlas

England & Wales (North) (Double-page map)

 

Provenance "The Times" Atlas,  Published at The Office of "The Times," Printing House Square, London. 1900. The maps for sale here are all at least 108 years old. I removed them from the damaged atlas myself.

These maps were all 'tipped in' to the atlas, meaning that they could be removed as a single intact sheet. The double maps have a single fold in the center. The single-page maps have no folds at all.

Condition

The overall condition of the maps is very good / excellent. The colors are bright and vibrant and the quality of the printing is excellent. There is the occasional spot in the margins of a few of the maps, and on a few maps, there is a small closed tear in the in margin, at the fold, that has been professionally repaired from behind. ALL THESE MAPS ARE PRINTED ON ONE SIDE ONLY. 

Remarks

These maps are from the Second Edition of The Times Atlas. Many of the maps are based on maps that first appeared in Richard Andree's Algemeiner Hand-Atlas (Leipzig, 1880s), which is considered one of the most visually pleasing atlases from the late 19th century. The maps are finely detailed and the printing is sharp and crisp with no off-setting. The paper is heavy and still quite bright, with only minor even age-toning to the extremes of the margins.

 

In the first image, the map has been reduced in size by half. For the second image, part of the map has been magnified X 3. Neither image has been adjusted or altered in any other way.
