Outstanding Large Antique 19th Century Black Forest Carved Wood Mantel Clock by Z and Co, with Movement by Japy Freres in Excellent Fully Working Condition
This is a real French antique clock in excellent condition. Wood carving is just superb. These clocks are rare and are highly prized by the collectors, as they are certainly works of art. They usually depict a story from a fable (maybe by LaFontaine?), this one shows a lizzard sneaking up on hawk's nest with eggs. The case of the clock is carved from a single piece of wood, dial is also carved from another piece of wood. The clock is currently running and striking. Please keep in mind that all pendulum based clocks need proper leveling/adjustment after they are moved. I will assist you in setting it up as much as I can (if you need my help), but in rare cases you may need to consult someone local that is familiar with pendulum clocks. The movement bears Japy Freres Medal of Honor (Medaille D'Honneur) and is also signed by the clock manufacturer (Z & Co). For a wooden clock that is over 100 years old, some damage is usually expected. There are two notable areas of restoration - hawk's wing (very well done) and to the leaf of the branch (more crude, but hard to see when you look at the clock from the front). Both are shown in the last two pictures. Also, there are age cracks visible inside the case from the back. The clock stands 17.5" high, 13" wide and 7.5" deep - a fairly large clock. The pictures tell the story pretty well, but if you need more pictures, please let me know, I will be more than happy to take them and send them to you. I charge real shipping and nothing for box and packing. I keep my reserves low, mostly everything I list sells, usually for well above my reserve. I am setting it just to protect myself and started doing this after one of my clocks sold for half of what I, myself, would have happily paid for it.
Please note that pendulum, bell and key are included with the clock. I routinely take pendulum and bell off so that I can take a better picture of the movement.
I have over 150 clocks in the house and keep buying more, so I have to sell some.
There are way too many crooks on eBay, so let me state some rules clearly:
1. I do not end my auctions early because of someone's "buy it now" offer. This would be unfair to other bidders, moreover it is against eBay's rules. Principles are always more important than money.
2. I will not ship to an address that is different from the one listed by eBay or PayPal unless the winning bidder can really prove to me that the address is legitimate.
3. I like to protect honest bidders. Lately, I have had some bidders bid high, then retract their bid just to find out what the top bid was, for the purpose of sniping later. In all such cases, I had blocked this bidder, not just from sniping that item, but also from ever bidding on any of my items again. I prefer to deal with honest people and, as I said above, principles are always more important than money.
I usually ship via UPS or FedEx since they do pick up at work. Shipping charges will be what it costs me to send it and I do not charge for packing. Insurance is optional, but very highly recommended. If item is not insured and gets damaged in shipping, I can't be liable. Either way, I will do my best to pack it well.
Please ignore eBay's shipping calculator. It shows charges too high for domestic and too low for international. I always charge exact shipping charges and none for packing. Thus, if you win any of my auctions, please wait for the invoice before paying.

Low reserve, ridiculously low starting bid - Good luck!!!
