Armorial: Antique French Sterling & Vermeil 68 Piece Flatware Set
Antiques:Silver, Sterling

Hmmmmmmmmm....Silver, gold? New, old? So many tempting choices when acquiring magnificent sterling flatware. This magical set offers so much. The dinner size forks and knives are sterling silver, while the entremet size spoons, forks and knives are gold plated sterling, or vermeil. Made by the prestigious Aucoq House, each piece is enscribed with the royal arms and coronet of a Marquis: in this case, belonging to the Baron de Taste. Decorated in elegant regency style, with bell flowers, scrolling acanthus, banded edges and swirling arabesques. All made in the finest quality sterling, 950/1000 parts, each piece marked with the silver guarantee Minerve 1st Titre. The Aucoq family has made the finest sterling for generations and provided services to numerous members of the French court, Royal families and other notables. Moreover, each piece has recently been refurbished with silver and gold replating (visa-vis the method called 'dipping'). So the set looks brand new. Those of you wanting a set that looks antique will find many other sets in my store. This one has a brand new look. Of course, a few cleanings later this one will resume the antique look that matches it's age. Also included is a fabulous antique fitted flatware chest, made of sturdy oak and bound with brass fittings. The chest has heavy duty handles and hinges and three layers of fitted 'drawers'. Along with the chest is the original working key! The chest is not original to the set; but such a fine sterling silver and vermeil flatware set is perfectly joined with this wonderful and rare chest! And there are several spaces left for filling in with more delectable fine silver! The bottom layer is for serving pieces.
This set includes: 16 huge dinner size forks, 16 dinner size knives, 12 entremet size spoons, 12 entremet size forks and 12 entremet size solid sterling silver knives. Please see photos for dimensions and weight. Well over 4 kilograms of silver here!
Condition: as noted, the pieces recently replated. So no real tarnish to note. One knife blade seems a bit off center. One or two of the spoon bowls have a few dimples. The oak chest has two fissures, one on top which so often happens due to the brass plate set in. One also on the bottom. Since the chest is fitted with brass corners and hinges, the piece is rock solid. Also, the inside fitted drawers are a bit faded and bear some soil. Please note the absence of dinner size spoons as well as coffee or demi-tasse size spoons!! The dinner size knives appear to have new blades! None of the oxidation that goes along with the original steel blades on these antique sets.
