Antique French Violin by Jerome Thibouville-Lamy Violin (JTL)- Circa 1890 NR!
You are bidding on an antique French violin circa 1890. This was aquired from an relatives home in MA when we were cleaning out her home after she moved to Florida approximately 5 years ago.I forgot that we had stored it with some other items. At that time we had it appraised we were told it was from 1890 and I believe the appraisel was approximately $1500. I am having trouble locating the actual paperwork, but Im actively looking and if I do find it I will certainly include it with the purchase. As I don't normally deal with vintage instruments I don't have alot of info to offer. However, there appears to quite alot of information on the net about this maker who apparently made all grades of these instruments with a large varience in value(s). The hardshell case is well used but one would expect this after over 110+ years. However, it is still very functional and has a beautiful red crushed velvet interior. There are also 2 bows included, both with abalone inlay on the handles. One needs to be restrung and Im not sure if it has any value. The other bow I believe is is stamped "Bausch" and is made in Czechoslovakia. Also, just a small plus, there are a few original accessories which were in the case, a box with Resin, 3 vintage(empty) packets of strings, an extra bridge and cloth for wiping strings. The violin looks to be all original and has not been restored!.There is a small paper label inside the violin has a picture of harp or lyre surronded by an aura and the initials J.T.L. The following measurements were in the case and I can only assume they relate to the violin:
LOB: 358 mm- UB: 170 mm- MB: 114mm- LB: 208mm
I see no cracks or damage and to the untrained eye appears to be in excellent vintage condition. Please note this item is being SOLD AS IS and is not returnable. IMPORTANT! Payment for this auction must be made via Paypal, Certified Bank Check or Money Order. NO PERSONAL CHECKS PLEASE!
