This rare and highly collectible replica of an 18th century Chinoiserie grandmother clock was made in Portugal in the 1970's Because of the extreme amount of work and attention to detail that went into this hand painted clock and the cost of material the production was discontinued. When ordering this clock in the 1970's, one would have to wait over a year for the consturction of the clock to be complete. The faceplate of this astounding clock is solid brass and the numerals and design are engraved and then hand painted over and surrounding the dials are carved brass snakes and deep floral design. Heavy solid brass finials at the top of this grandmothers clock pop in and out for easy polishing. With the turn of a hand you can choose from two sets of sound to play, one is the reverberantly charming chime of Westminster, the other an angelic chime resonant of Ave-Maria, set for every quarter hour. On the top side you can see red cloth framed in woven brass filigree. A crystal clear beveled glass door protects the clock face and hands and has smooth brass hinges. The skillfully hand-inlayed and hand-painted chinoiserie on this piece are amazing in quantity and quality. There is a scene with a boy exploring in a boat, many forest scenes with bonzaied trees near japanese houses, some rural islands with fine sharp mountains behind the clouds, detailed roses, and bridges over water. The 6 turned Columns on this piece have delicate and fine floral designs on them. Much like the intricate designs adorning the case the Portuguese movement on this clock is very precise and quiet. The clock includes a key for winding, and one for opening the pendulum section, but we do not have a key to open the face section (which is unlocked). Standing on solid bracket feet rest assured this grandmother will be standing for generations. This clock is smaller than a grandfather clock, perfect for a smaller house or room. There is a small crack at the top of this clock as you can see in the pictures below, otherwise this clock is in amazing condition and a great deal on a great investment...good luck bidding! -Attention- Buyer pays all shipping.
