 Mermaid Makers Mark

This little darling is in over all EXCELLENT condition. She is string strung and completely intact.  And is dressed in what appears to be her original dress and panties!!

 Between Her Shoulder Blades

The number 40 on the back of her head

And between her shoulders

SIZE  Approx 14"

MATERIAL  Celluloid

MAKERS NAME Based on my research, I believe that the name of the maker of this doll is Schoberl & Becker. This was a german company that produced celluloid dolls during a short window of time (1923-30) and used the mermaid mark.   

FACE & HEAD  What a face! And her glass eyes are exceptional!  The condition is excellent with no dents, breaks, splits, seperations, marks, or pin pricks, Her makeup is all original and amazingly fresh. 

The paint on her lips is still very vibrant with the prettiest sweetheart shaped mouth. Her eyebrows are visable and even. And she still has the red dots in her nose and on the interior of her eye sockets. 

Her eyes are the most amazing blue and so life like! The eyes are extremely clear with no cracking or clouding.  The eyelashes are still there. However, they are quite short and appear to have receeded.  

Her molded hair is in great condion with some slight rubbed areas and paint loss (please see pictures).  This distress is very minimal and does not take away from the beauty and charm of this doll

HANDS & FEET  Excellent to great condition with no staining or chew marks. All fingers and toes are accounted for with no breaks.  The finger nails have been painted a pinkish violet. 

Also, there is some white tape residue on the feet and ankles (very minimal) and some written numbers on the bottom of her right foot .  I believe that both issues can be resolved with a good cleaning. However, I will leave that to the new owners discretion. 

BODY  Excellent condition with no dents, breaks, cracks, seperation, stains or marks.

ARMS & LEGS  Excellent condition with no breaks, dents, cracks, seperations, stains or marks. There is some slight fading and tiny "freckling " (please see pictures).  This is very minor and does not take away from her beauty or display appeal. 

CLOTHING She will arrive at her new destination in the clothing pictured. This outfit is in excellent to great condition. I believe that her dress and panties are original but cannot say for certain. The fabric and styling are from the correct era.

The dress and panties are in excellent condition. The dress is made of a vibrant red cotton print accented with a ruffled trim of ivory organdy. The panties are ribbed cotton and are also ivory in color. The dress has a small tear in the fabric on the front of the dress. It does not show unless looked for and in no way takes away from her display appeal.  

She also has a netted half slip that I do not think is original. It is in good condition with no holes in the netting. However, it was cut along the waist in order to fit around her tummy. This is not a big deal and is not necessary to the outfit. However, I would suggest tacking it directly to the dress as it looks so darn cute!!!

Her shoes are a thin white rubber or soft plastic. Again, I do not think these were the original but they fit perfectly and look excellent.

One last note: Some may feel that she might need her limbs tightened up a bit. Which could  quite easily be done.  I personally think she's perfect just the way she is and will leave that choice to the new owner.
