Antique

German

regulator

Friedrich Mauthe

Schwenningen

Black Forest

approx. 1880/1900

This impressive wall clock dates from the heyday of the German period of promoterism.

The case with the two columns is in very good condition in line with the age.

Apart from the usual traces of use there is nothing marring the beauty of this clock.

The elaborately worked top piece completes the lovely exterior of this antique regulator.

The original dial is in flawless condition.

Both the clockwork as well as the striking mechanism are fully functional.

The striking mechanism chimes once every half hour and fully on the hour using a melodic spiral gong.

The clockwork is cleaned and oiled.

It is signed:

Friedrich Mauthe

Schwenningen

It is understood that the matching key will also be provided.

In the elaborately decorated case swings a splendid gridiron pendulum,

a compensation pendulum with all the excellent qualities

one commonly ascribes to it.

The use of different metals in the gridiron pendulum enhances not only its visual appearance

but the accuracy of the clock as well.

Metal expands and contracts with fluctuations in temperature, altering the pendulum length.

Although these changes are only minimally detectable,

the pendulum length determines the speed at which the clock runs, affecting the accuracy of the timepiece.

By combining metals which expand at different rates this effect is minimized.

The clock is immediately ready to be put into your living room

with no restoration needed.
