Camera Information:
Produced from 1926 to 1931, the N°1A Pocket Kodak has a very recognizable design.
This camera is equipped with a Kodex N°1 shutter (T, B, 1/25s & 1/50s).
This is one of the first cameras allowing to adjust the focus using a screw which moves the tray supporting the lens and shutter. An indicator calibrated in metres and feet gives the distance to the subject.
It uses format 116 on rollfilm which produces a 6,5 x 11cm negative image.
This camera is an "Autographic" model - it allows the photographer to carry some handwritten marks directly on a special film which, instead of an opaque paper protecting the film from the light, uses a sheet of carbon paper doubled with a thin red paper.
Opening the special door on the back side of the camera, the photographer has access to the back of the film. Writing with the stilleto on the red paper, this transfers the carbon onto the red paper allowing the light to hit the film which records the writing.
