This auction is for a nice lot of 87 very old limestone marbles. There is a section in Baumann's 4th edition which references these marbles. They were originally made in Germany in the mid to late 1800's. The limestone was mined by hand and the chunks of limestone were ground into spheres on large grinding wheels which were made of stone, and powered by watered. They were imported in large quantities into the US until about the turn of the 20th century. Some of them were colored by a dying process. Some of the marbles in this lot are dyed, and some are natural colored. These range in size from around 7/16" to 11/16". Very nice lot of harder to find early marbles. Check the pics and bid accordingly. Always combined shipping on multiple purchases.
