Very rare complete 6 volume set of Benjamin Lossing's "Washington and the American Republic" published in 1904.  In extremely good shape for their age, these books seem to have tight bindings and have been read very little.  The covers appear to be made of a deep blue leather or leather-like material with hard marbelized paper and a lot of gorgeous gold print on the binding and gold gilded edges which are just beautiful.  The condition of the outsides of these books is good in light of their age, with only a few scratches and some wear, especially where the paper on the edges is disintegrating.  I have photographed them as well as I can so you can see clearly the condition.  (Click on Photo to Enlarge.) What is surprising is how perfect the pages look inside! No marks, creases, dirt or anything that I can find; they look almost new to me with some yellowing of course.  I don't know how to tell if these are first editions or not.

There are literally hundreds of absolutely gorgeous pictures, illustrations and maps.  Each picture of historical persons has a delicate, nearly see through, page covering it to protect it.  Each photo has a beautiful border around it.  There are pictures of every historical person you can think of surrounding America's Revolution and the life of Washington, including George at several different ages, his friends and family relations, as well as the well-known figures such as Hamilton, Jefferson, Adams, and others.  I would have liked to include every picture and map for you to enjoy.  Each book is approximately 10 1/2 inches x 7 1/2 inches and about 1 1/2 inches deep.  Oh, they smell just like an old library--so wonderful!
