This wonderful antique textile is a beautiful Ikat Flamme bed curtain dating c1820-1840
This wonderful wonderful textile , the French call this weave Flamme~ it is a very early Ikat textile, this is a process of resist dying where the weft and usually the warp threads are died in a pattern before weaving to create this amazing woven pattern. This fabric would have most likely been used as fabric for a bed curtain. These flamme textiles dated from anywhere around 1760-1850~ This is a medium weight woven cotton and would have been died with natural Indigo. The textile is 100% woven cotton and is a single sheet of the fabric, meaning no quilting or backing~ This textile is absolutely beautiful~*~ There is an extraordinary amount of original fabric on this panel and it has been created by hand stitching panels of the hand woven Ikat fabric together to create the large piece. The width is comprised of hand stitched panels~ This panel was found wrapped in cotton in a chest and came from a very large house in Central France. I have never seen these textiles in such amazing condition~*~ This panel would look amazing used as a bed cover, curtains, or used for other projects~ lovely rare fabric~~* It is extremely rare to find this flamme in such wonderful condition as this panel~ Each end has been hand stitched in tiny tiny stitches and you can see at the top of the panel there were once rings for hanging that have since been removed. Because this fabric is woven, it is interchangable to use for the front weave or the back~ it is truly a glorious find~ rare and wonderful~*~ This panel has a wonderful hand stitched square in the top right corner ( please see photographs) of the same flamme, just hand stitched in place, perhaps to remove a tear or hole! ~*~ it is stunning~*~

This panel is in amazing condition. It is freshly laundered and ready to use~ Unbelievably wonderful condition~ when held to the light, there are a few very very small holes, only very small! ~*~ Remarkable ~*~
