Antique J&E Stevens Mule Entering Barn Mechanical Bank

This is a very rare antique cast iron Mechanical Bank. Made by J&E Stevens, circa 1880. This bank appears to be in its original condition and is not believed to be completely repainted or altered with one exception. There are tiny numbers engraved on the bottom of the base. They could be some kind if identification numbers belonging to a previous owner. These numbers are very small and can only be seen when the bank is turned over. There is also a spot of yellow paint on the bottom of the base that matches the paint on the barn's interior. Perhaps the inside of the barn was retouched at some point. The base measures 81/2' X 33/8". The barn measures 51/4' inches high. This bank was patented August 3, 1880 by Edward l. Morris of Boston, Mass. The patent date can be seen on the bottom of the bank. The paint is slightly chipped in places, but, given the age of this bank, it is in wonderful condition. The roof is brown. The upper section of each end of the roof is red. The sides, back and parts of the front of the barn are green. The inside entrance is yellow. The base is brown. the mule is dark brown with a black mane, tail and hooves. The little dog that runs out of the barn is white with black spots. The paint on the dog appears faded to gray from age. To operate the bank, the mule is pulled down into position. A coin is placed between his rear legs. Then a small lever on the base is pressed forward. The mule pivots over and ends up on his head inside the barn. The coin is tossed inside the barn as the mule's tail moves up and to the side. The little dog runs out from the barn entrance at the same time.
