This carpet was aquired in the western Xinjiang region. It is from the turn of the 20th century, but still in great shape. It depicst a wonderful scene of a Crane and a pomegranate tree. Pomegranates symbolize fertility in wealth, and they are a common motif in Khotan carpets. Instead of stylized designs however, this beautiful picture carpet is captivating and unique. Its soft reds and beiges will add a delicate touch to your home or office, and bring a snse of wonder to any hallway..

This antique rug is made of wool with cotton foundation, a .5 in. (2cm) thick pile, and about 100 knots per inch. It is older, but in good shape , and will easily last several more decades.

In this part of the world, families often do not sleep in beds but instead wrap themselves in these rugs to keep out the biting winter cold. They are warm, durable, and made for family use.

There are similar rugs on eBay that sell for over $2000. Why are ours so cheap?

  • 1. They are directly from the source. We travel the hills and villages, scour the markets, and trade directly with the rug owners and makers. There is no warehouse, no distributor, no collector in between you and this carpet.
  • 2. We are in Kashgar, not Manhattan. This rug will take some time to get to you, and it can be scary working with overseas traders. But take a look at our history, we have not had one bad comment. That is because we take our customers very seriously and work to ensure his or her satisfaction.
  • 3. We think these carpets should be available to more people, not just collectors. You will find that these are amazing pieces. Full of history, handcrafted effort, and centuries of tradition. They don't belong in store-rooms; they belong with a family who will enjoy it.

Khotan is one of the ancient cities on the famous Silk Road. For centuries, the carpets from this area have been highly prized for their craftsmanship and beauty. This area is also known as Samarkand, but its current official name as part of China is the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. One main difference between these and other "oriental" rugs is that these will not shrink if they are washed. This carpet will last a long, long time, and is easily kept in good condition.

All our carpets are purchased in person in the Kashgar region. They are all authentic in the most literal sense. We are based in Kashgar and ship to clients around the world from here. Please be patient as your carpet travels halfway around the world. Allow 50-70 days for priority shipping, and 30-50 for express shipping.

About Us

We are a local family in Kashgar collecting high quality antique rugs from Uyghur families all around Xinjiang (Sinkiang) for more than 15 years and offering these rugs 50 percent cheaper than shops in here Kashgar or Khotan. If you ever read the book of the Hans Bidder's Khotan carpet book you can learn about these carpets.
