Antique Tribal Blouse from Afghanistan

DESCRIPTION:
This antique, early 20th century blouse originates from the nomadic “Kuchi” tribes of Afghanistan. Kuchi (which means “nomad”) are Sunni Muslim tribes people who travel the alpine routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The “Kuchi” are migratory herdsman and they depend on their livestock for survival. Some of the tribes have recently settled due to the effects of war and drought. The “Kuchi” population consists of different ethnic groups, predominantly Pashtun, Beluchi, Arab, but also Aimaq, and even some Tajik and Uzbek in the north. The blouse is adorned with fine silk embroidery on the front and the blouse is further adorned with various kinds of ornaments including mirrors & beads. These blouses were made and worn by Kuchi women and it took over 6 months for one woman to make a blouse. The blouse is in good condition and does not have any major damages or defects except for some minor discolorations due to many years of use. This is an antique blouse and has been worn for many years; therefore it has some normal “wear & tear” but is in overall good condition. This is a small size blouse and the measurements are as follows: shoulder to sleeves 21”, shoulder-to-shoulder 15” long. The blouse measures 56” across the back from one sleeve end to the other and the length from neck to hem is 26 inches.
