| Greetings Ladies And Gentleman. This tool is in excellent type working condition and can actually be used for work or display collection. This tool could be 80 to 100 years old. It was used to pull, drag, or skid heavy logs or other heavy loads. The safety-release tri-hook is made of hardened steel. This tool is of smart design and is / was a real "lifesaver". |

How it was used: This tool is used as a fasten-and-release link between the horse / tractor tow chain and the log's chain. (Note: no chain-end hook was needed, but just any link of bare chain would do). The user could easily and quickly "hook-up" the pull line-chain and get out of the way. When it was time to unhook / release the load, the user would use a steel rod that had a small curved, yet flat, hook at the end, fashioned / shaped so one could manipulate the release of the tow line by pulling on one of the two hooked bars on the tool of which openes the tong end. Some jiggling may be done to help the release. In essence, this tool allowed the worker to stay out of harm's way, because for a person to be positioned in between the horse/machinery and the heavy load, is extremely dangerous. One mishap from a spooked horse or unstable log, a worker could be easily maimed or even killed. I actually remember using this same type of tool years ago and it worked like a charm.
