A fine, high quality, single-sided, 1873 map of

NEW SOUTH WALES, VICTORIA, BRISBANE and ADELAIDE

by J.G. Bartholomew.

Provenance The International Atlas,  by William F. Collier, L.L.D. (First Edition)
Published New York:  G.P. Putnam's Sons, Fourth Avenue and Twenty-Third Street.  1873.  YES, THESE ARE ORIGINAL 145 YEAR-OLD MAPS. I removed them from the atlas myself. I will include a photocopy of the atlas' publication page with your purchase.

Size / Format 12.5" x 10.5"  (37 cm x 26.5 cm). These high quality maps are printed on one side only and have one fold in the centre, which is barely noticeable when the map is laid flat. Each map is precisely and evenly centered on the page, with clean 0.75" margins on all sides. 
Condition Excellent. No foxing, marks, tears or noticeable defects. The heavy, acid-free paper the maps were printed on has stood up extraordinarily well over the past 145 years. It is bright and shows no signs of age-toning. The edges are crisp and untrimmed. There is no foxing or browning on any of these maps.
Remarks

Bartholomew was one of the most accomplished and enduring 19th century cartographers. His original engravings from the 1860s and 1870s continued to be used for maps in Britain, the U.S., and other countries, well into the 20th century in publications like the Times Atlas of London. 

Maps from this atlas were among the first to be lithographed in layers, which allows for even and precise coloration of both large and small divisions.

 

The scanned image below is just slightly smaller than the map itself.
