Up for auction is this beautiful antique and complete oil- kerosene lamp. It dates from the 1850's -1860's. It is an authentic american oil lamp as pictured in the Thuro Oil Lamp II book on page 64. This one has the double step marble base with brass column. The font is deep amethyst cut to clear in the pattern of bubbles shaped like a flower with some leaf like cutting between flower circles, and a ring of bubbles around base of glass. The font has not been drilled. It is complete with a burner chimney holder and chimney, shade holder and authentic antique engraved flower shade. Floral engraving of font and shade are matching. The total height including chimney and shade is 21- 1/2 inches. Without burner and chimney and shade it stands about 12- 1/2 inches tall to top of brass mount-collar. The inside diameter of the collar is 1 inch. Width of marble base is 5 inches. Width of glass font is about 5-1/2 inches. The font is clear and bright. No damage to the glass whatsoever. No damage to brass column or marble. This lamp is in excellent shape. Hard to believe for something that is about 150 years old. A wonderful buy for the collector. Rarely you find a complete authentic antique oil lamp in this condition. Possibly Boston and Sandwich Company. - Please view my other auctions for fine antiques and collectibles. On Nov-02-09 at 15:32:35 PST, seller added the following information: CORRECTION: The actual inside diameter - threading of collar for burner is 1-1/4 inches. Not 1 inch as stated in listing. |
