Antique Old Aceh Piso Sewah Gading Knife Sword

You are looking at a very fine condition knife “Sewah” from Aceh Tenggara , North Sumatera Region - Indonesia.

This is one of the finest Sewah with top sheath is made from elephant`s ivory , middle part from hardwood, supposed kayu keumuning ( Murraya exotica L ), while handle made from "geraham gajah" elephant`s tooth that very hard and make a very rich color. Upper and bottom sheath fully encased with finely repoussed silver with floral motifs.

Like other slicing weapon , this sewah  have a very thick and sturdy blade with a single sharp edge and slightly arcing bongkok udang  profile. With a single fuller running along the blunt side , this blade is tempered and bluing.

Indonesia archipelago weapons usually made without any date marking ,  base on the style , motifs and design , this Sewah should be circa late of 19^th Century.
