Antique Petite Chas. Ahrenfeldt Limoges Covered Dish

First, we thank you so much for viewing our item and would now like to offer for your consideration a charming little serving dish with lid made by Charles Ahrenfeldt, Limoges, France, circa 1894-1930’s. Bottom of the piece and the interior of the lid are stamped with the company whiteware underglaze trademark which reads, “C. Ahrenfeldt, Limoges, Patented,” and a second overglaze decorator’s mark appears on the bottom of the dish in green with the wording “France, CA” with a star and arrows below the initials. (Reference for identification & dating can be found in Gaston’s book on Limoges, pages 21-23.) The entire piece is fashioned in a smooth mold design. Its petite measurements are: 5¾” length for the oval rim and 7-1/8” from handle to handle, 3” high from base to top of lid handle, and 1½” deep. The white porcelain is beautifully decorated with transfer pattern in Victorian-style roses in deep pink connected by graceful swags of green leaves; small green wreaths are centered within each swag and having pink lilies atop each wreath. Gold daubs on the handles and base of the dish complete the decorative accents. There is no pattern name for the piece, however, it is registered as pattern AHR235 at Replacements, Ltd. This petite collector’s piece originates from a private porcelain and glass collection within an older Southern estate and has been kept in excellent condition. No signs of previous use and appears like new. No nicks, chips, cracks, hairlines, or crazing noted. White porcelain surfaces appear immaculate, bright, & clear. No gold loss found. Extremely few, if any, light surface scratches noted with no signs of any utensil use on the dish. Flaws from the time of manufacture found are a few, tiny areas where pattern did not transfer entirely on a single leaf, as well as a very few tiny glaze bumps and indentions in the glaze finish. The upper rim of the dish, the bottom resting ring of the dish, and the lid’s interior fitting ring are smooth but unglazed. Photos have been provided for further details. This small vintage set has made a quaint and charming cabinet display piece.
