The scourging of Jesus would have been done by "professional men." By the time the soldiers had finished applying the scourging, the body of Jesus was covered with blood from the head down to the feet. When they untied our Lord from the column, or the rope, probably Jesus fell to the ground, exhausted, and may have remained there for some time. Then He recovered enough to stand the trial and even to carry the cross for a time. The artist has attempted to depict that moment in this statue.
My 95 year old mom is moving into an assisted care facility in Miami, and she has asked me to auction off several of her most prized possessions. All these items have been in our family for several generations and have come to her by inheritance; they have never been offered for sale or auction.
You are bidding on an 18th century bone-relic carving of Jesus. The carving was most probably done in the Philippines, a Colony of Spain in the 1700’s. It weighs 3 ounces, and the size is 4.25 inches tall, NOT counting the 1.25 inch pedestal. The base has a diameter of 1.75 inches. The teak wood pedestal is a modern addition, made to look like the original.
